About Janet Smart

Dr Janet Smart is Reader in Operations Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She is lecturer and tutor in Operations Management on the Economics & Management undergraduate programme, and teaches an elective in Project Management on the MBA programme, as well as contributing to the Technology and Operations Management MBA core course. She also teaches Systems Engineering on the MSc in Major Programme Management and the MPLA programme. She supervises MSc theses in the management of major programmes, and is currently supervising a DPhil on operations management in museums. Before joining the Saïd Business School, Dr Smart spent 18 years carrying out teaching and research in the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford, particularly on operations management and manufacturing systems. Dr Smart is currently researching project management approaches in large science projects, and in IT companies. She is applying the methods of project management and systems engineering to issues around Brexit. She has published over 150 items on the areas of manufacturing systems, complexity and project management.
